FIDA partnership
The Montrose Football Club, in partnership with the Shire of Ranges and the Federation of Intellectually Disabled Athletes ( FIDA ) are offering people with an intellectual disability aged 12 and over, the opportunity to learn the skills of Australian Rules Football. The clinics include skill development activities including drills, games and practice matches, similar to what is being offered at most Auskick Clinics. It is hoped that players will learn the skills of the game so that they are able to be recruited to the Ringwood Blues FIDA team ( for people over 18 yrs who have an intellectual disability) or other mainstream junior sides. This is the sixth season the club has conducted the clinics and there is now a core group of regulars who really enjoy playing footy and particularly the party lunch with parents and carers aftrer each clinic. We welcome new participants at any time.At the last clinic there is a Presentation Lunch and all players receive a Montrose jumper. A specific program has been designed by coach Glen Rickard so that sessions are structured to follow a guided format. This allows participants to develop skills progressively. Participants are expected to provide their own transport to and from the activity.Montrose Football Club also welcomes spectators with a disability to all matches and club functions, as well as their parents and carers. The new facility is access friendly, with a lift to the first floor and ramp at the front entrance. In 2010 all clinics will be held at the Montrose Football Club Training Oval. Montrose Recreation Reserve, Mt. Dandenong Rd., Montrose. 3765( melway ref.52 C8 ) between 11am and 1pm. Lunch is included. Individual clinics cost $5.00 per head.
