MONTROSE  FOOTBALL  CLUB  RE-LOCATION

Due to the major re-development taking place at the Montrose Recreation Reserve, which includes upgrading the main oval and developing a new training facility at the back oval, all teams of the Montrose Football Club have had to be relocated for season 2008. This includes all associated activities of the club including the FIDA Disability clinics, Auskick and the newly formed Youth/Girls team. ( see full details this page).

While there is a sense of excitement at the prospect of returning in 2009 to the new facilities it has been an extremely busy time during this off-season to source alternate venues. The Board of Management at MFC would like to thank  the committee of the Kilsyth Football Club and the Eastern Ranges for their assistance in negotiating sharing arrangements to accommodate our Senior and Junior teams on match days. We would also like to acknowledge the generosity of the Montrose Primary School for making their oval available for Auskick and the Disability clinics. Without such support these activities would not have been able to continue through this year and we genuinely appreciate the help received to enable them to do so.

Club members clear out old pavillion

February marked the final clear out and working bee for the footy club.

The old rooms looking even more sad and tired when everything had gone.

However it was all done with an air of excitement as the start of the new building moves closer.

The demolition should take place by the end of March and then it will be all systems go!

The club thanks those volunteers who have worked on several Sunday mornings to pack up and clear out the old building, and also Storage King who have generously sponsored the storage of equipment and furniture until we move back into the new facility.

About us:

The Montrose Football Club is a leading community based sporting organization, catering for the growing needs of youth in our local area and providing a vital role in developing and maintaining the identity of the region.
We are currently involved in a number of community partnerships:

  • as host of the disability clinics with the Federation of Intellectually Disabled Athletes and the Shire of Yarra Ranges
  • a partner in the Montrose Recreation Reserve Development with the Shire of Yarra Ranges and eight other community groups
  • allied with the Montrose Auskick Program to provide a training venue and host showcase games
  • represented in the Montrose Township Group to keep abreast of local plans and developments and assist where possible
  • founding member of the Ladies of The East- an Eastern Football League sponsored group to encourage and promote women into executive positions in football administration
  • an accredited Level One Good Sports Club ( waiting for formal accreditation level two).

At the M.F.C. we have a proud tradition of nurturing talented footballers and sportsmen who provide top class entertainment at a pivotal location within our community. We currently have three senior teams , Firsts, Reserves and Colt's ( U18) in Division 2 of the Eastern Football League, widely regarded as the strongest metropolitan league in Australia. Our Junior Club, also affiliated with the E.F.L.. consistently provides a top level junior development program with a strong emphasis on participation, encouragement and skill development. The Montrose Football Club is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of the local business community and volunteers within our membership to operate our programs. We have just under 300 registered players at senior at junior levels. In 2001 the junior and senior clubs which had been operating as separate entities amalgamated to become the Montrose Football Club Incorporated and formed a Board of Management to conduct the administrative, financial and marketing business of the club. It has responsibility to promote the game in the wider Montrose community and ensure the opportunities to play Australian Rules football are continued to be provided for this community.

We are enthusiastic supporters of the Recreation Reserve Development and enjoying working with the Shire of Yarra Ranges, James Merlino, Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, and Cr.Len Cox and the other community group representatives
